Government Urged to Introduce Streaming Levy to Fund British Productions

The UK film and TV industry could see a new source of funding if MPs’ latest recommendations are adopted. The Culture, Media and Sport Committee has called on the government to explore introducing a levy on the UK revenues of major streaming platforms.

The idea is simple: a small percentage of the billions generated by platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ would be reinvested directly into British film and television, with a strong emphasis on independent productions. The proposal mirrors successful schemes already in place across Europe.
