UK Politicians Call for Boost to Indie Film Distribution

The British government is facing growing calls to do more to support independent film distribution. In a recent parliamentary report, MPs urged the creation of a dedicated “prints and advertising tax credit” designed to help low-budget British films reach wider audiences, both at home and abroad.

While recent tax relief schemes have helped with production costs, many independent filmmakers say their biggest challenge comes after the cameras stop rolling: getting their films seen. The proposed tax credit would help small production companies cover the significant marketing and distribution costs needed to get their work into cinemas and onto streaming platforms.

Industry insiders have welcomed the proposal, saying it could be a lifeline for British indie talent striving to compete in an increasingly crowded global market.
